We have a number of exciting services developed for utility providers that significantly simplify and improve many advanced processes and analysis problems. Our work often starts with a thorough analysis of collected measurement data, since this data encapsulates most of a district heating provider's activities and processes. An intelligent handling of measurement data is the key to developing functional and value-creating services, both for the utility provider, its customers and the environment.

UtilifeedPricing


UtilifeedPricing is a tool developed for evaluating and implementing new pricing models for district heating companies. The application supports several common price models out of the box, and more will be added. This means that with the press of a button you can see how different price logics would affect your business over time. Our prediction model EnergyPredict makes sure that the results are accurate all the way down to substation level.

To answer these questions we simulate your energy grid down to individual substations over a period of 20 years of historical weather data.

Developing a new price model

Developing a new price model is often a slow, expensive and complicated project for a district heating provider. With our simulation tool UtilifeedPricing we can significantly simplify, and improve the quality of, the pricing model development process. We can support the full process, from requirement identification through implementation. You may also choose to only hire our services and UtilifeedPricing during the analysis stage, where you yourself can easily test and see the direct impact of different pricing models.

Planning and identification

Together we discuss the goals and requirements of the project. Typical questions include:
  • Desired financial attributes and goals of new pricing model.
  • Timescale for decision points and implementation.
  • Requirements related to customer communication.

Data collection

We collect the data required to run a simulation in UtilifeedPricing:
  • Measurement data from all connected substations.
  • Segmentations and current pricing models.
  • Attributes of heat generating plants.

Model creation in UtilifeedPricing

We feed the data to UtilifeedPricing, which simulates production needs for each site.

Simulation

Once the production models have been created it's quick and easy to test and compare different pricing models against the intended goals, as well as designing and immediately evaluating new custom pricing systems.

Decision

UtilifeedPricing automatically generates diagrams and visualisations alongside the underlying data required to make an informed decision regarding future pricing models. If you feel something is missing, additional supporting information can also be provided upon request.

Implementation

During implementation, customer communication material must be provided and current systems are updated. We have competence and solutions to support you through this phase as well. Among other things, UtilifeedPricing creates an analysis of what the changes will mean for each customer, which can be used in communication.

EnergyPredict


EnergyPredict is our prediction algorithm for energy use in buildings and district heating grids. Through machine learning a model is created, which can consider hundreds of factors affecting the energy use of individual buildings as well as the overall network. This includes temperature, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, time of day and day of the week. For utility providers we currently provide these two microservices based on EnergyPredict:

Supply and demand analysis

Accurately determining whether customer demand for district heating has increased or decreased between years is a lot more difficult than it initially seems, because annual demand is affected by more than the overall outdoor temperature. For large networks, the sheer amount of data can also be a challenge, if one is interested in evaluating how individual substations have changed.

Our demand analysis tool makes it easy to mark a historical reference period and evaluate how demand has changed in subsequent years. The algorithm will calculate an expected demand for each substation, assuming characteristics are equivalent to the reference year, and a comparison with the actual energy use will show how the energy efficiency has changed.

EnergyPredict
Load forecasting
Improved load forecasting for the whole network comes with improved opportunities to plan production as efficiently as possible. EnergyPredict can automatically provide an updated load forecast several times a day based on weather forecast data. It will also automatically adjust to changes in the underlying network characteristics, to minimise the risk of making predictions based on an outdated network model.

Energy analysis using Degree days


Degree day adjustment is a quick and easy method for normalising the energy usage of a building or network. The normalised energy use is comparable between different years, which makes it possible to evaluate how the relative energy need and efficiency has developed for individual buildings or entire energy networks. You can purchase degree-days from our webshop today, and enjoy our convenient delivery options as well as the ability to adjust base temperature with a single click.
